Transcend's new 1.8-inch SSD drive & 2.5-inch portable hard drive

The Transcend's SSD drives come in the form of the SSD18M, eSATA and USB 2.0 interface options, and 32GB, 64GB, or 128GB sizes.
The 2.5-inch StoreJet 25F is only available in 500GB capacity, and only includes an USB 2.0 interface, along with Transcend's StoreJet data management software.Prices are not out yet.

Sandisk's New Laptop SSD

Sandisk unveils new bigger Laptop SSDs in CES 2009. The company has announced 2.5-inch and 1.8-inch SSDs for laptops of various sizes. The sizes are 60GB, 120GB, and 240GB. which are priced at $149, $249, and $499 respectively. It comes with with 200MB/sec read and 140MB/sec writes.

PQI's New MicroSATA SSD S518, S525, S520, Express Card and e-SATA Combo

Taipei, Taiwan: Visitors attending the 2009 CES at Las Vegas during Jan. 8 ~ 11, 2009 can locate Power Quotient International Co., Ltd. (PQI) at the Venetian Tower 233, 234. At the exhibit, PQI will have on display their full range of Solid State Drive (SSD), USB Flash Drive (UFD), Memory Module and Flash Memory Card. Four new SSD products makes their debut ~ 1.8” microSATA SSD S518, Express Card SSD S520, 2.5” SATA SSD S525 and e-SATA Combo Card S530. Of which, the 32GB Express Card SSD S520 utilizes PCI/E slot and PQI’s patented Intelligent Stick Interface. Users have the option of using it as a USB flash drive or to extend its PC / laptop storage capacity through PCI/E slot. The 64GB e-SATA Combo Card S530 has an e-SATA connection interface and it reaches a maximum read speed of 90MB/Sec.


Both PQI’s 1.8” microSATA SSD S518 and 2.5” SATAⅡ SSD S525 are available with a maximum capacity of 128GB. The 1.8” microSATA SSD S518 can be installed into PCs or laptops and the 2.5” SATAⅡ SSD S525 comes with two interfaces for storage expansion.

SSDs are advantaged over traditional hard drives in read/ write speeds, shock proof, low power consumption, lighter body weight and quiet operation. Intel Ships 160GB SSD Drives

Intel announced its X25-M 2.5-inch and X18-M 1.8-inch SATA solid-state drive (SSD) family with a 160GB drive in a 2.5-inch form factor.The X25-M product is already out now, and the 1.8-inch 160GB version will be in next month next month.

Intel announced the 80GB X25-M and X18-M -- it's first entry into the SSD market -- at its Developers Forum in August and shortly after announced the X25-E for enterprise servers and workstations. The 32GB Intel X25-E Extreme SATA is based on Intel's single-level cell NAND flash memory and is designed to maximize the I/p-o/p operations per second, while the X25M is a multi-level cell memory affording it greater capacity.

Computerworld reviewed the 80GB X25-M september and found it to be the fastest consumer-grade SSD on the market to date. The X25-M even beat out Western Digital's fastest Velociraptor hard disk drive, which has a 250.2MB/sec. burst speed and 105.6MB/sec. average read speed. The X25-M turned in 256.7MB/sec. and 230.2MB/sec. burst and transfer rates, respectively. Intel did not immediately offer pricing on the new 160GB X25-M and X18-M drives.

TOSHIBA ANNOUNCED INDUSTRY’S FIRST 512GB SOLID STATE DRIVE

Toshiba announced the expansion of their line up of NAND-flash-based solid state drives (SSD) with the industry's first 2.5-inch 512-gigabyte (GB)1 SSD and a broad family of fast read/write SSDs based on 43 nanometer (nm) Multi-Level Cell NAND.The new drives provide a high level of performance and endurance for use in notebook computers, gaming and home entertainment systems, and will be showcased at International CES 2009 in Las Vegas, Nevada from January 8 – 11, 2009.

In addition to the 2.5-inch, 512GB drive, the 43nm NAND SSD family also includes capacities of 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB, offered in 1.8-inch or 2.5-inch drive enclosures or as SSD Flash Modules. Samples of the new drives will be available in the first quarter (January to March) of 2009, with mass production in the second (April to June) quarter.



Toshiba's second-generation SSDs bring increased capacity and performance for notebook computers. They utilize an advanced MLC controller, which is also compatible with further advanced processes, that achieves higher read/write speeds, parallel data transfers and wear leveling to optimize performance, reliability and endurance. The drives enable improved system responsiveness with a maximum sequential read speed of 240MB per second (MBps)2 and maximum sequential write speed of 200MBps enabling an improvement in overall computing experience, and faster boot and application loading times. The drives also offer AES data encryption to prevent unauthorized data access.
